A Higher Visitor Connection Through Questions

Link to August 20 webinar registration page.

10:00a Pacific/1:00p Eastern (60 minutes) - Zoom
Karin Hostetter & James Fester

Intentionally designed questions facilitate higher visitor satisfaction and participation. We will model and share different question and inquiry-based strategies focused on catalyzing discussion, enjoyment, and meaning-making. Use questions to help participants of interpretive programs move toward self-actualization and progress from factual retrieval to personal reflection. Participants will leave with next-day ready activities and strategies they can integrate into a wide variety of programs and staff/volunteer training.

James Fester is an educator, author, and volunteer interpreter with 20+ years of experience in public, private, and online learning. He currently works in public education and with parks and museums nationwide in reimagining their educational offerings. His writing, featured in many blogs and two books published by ISTE, highlights the potential of interpretive practices and public lands as a classroom resource. He currently serves as the elections chair for NAI Heartland Region and lives in the Twin Cities of Minnesota.

Karin Hostetter, Owner/Trainer of Interpret This, is a lead trainer with NAI and has over 45 years in the interpretive field, beginning as a front-line natural and cultural history interpreter, progressing through Executive Director of an environmental center. As a trainer and interpreter, Karin has long recognized the power of questions to bring meaning to interpretation. Through Interpret This, she focuses on interpretive training, writing, and volunteer program management while splitting her time between Richmond, IN, and Aurora, CO.
