Global Excellence in Interpretation

Free Webinar Series

While interpreters have shifted to digital communication through online webinars and meetings, interpreters' professional associations around the world have increased their activity, developing and providing online services to members, including training, conferences, one-off events, and more. This accelerated trend has given us an opportunity to share good practice more widely across the world, with interpreters from different countries and indeed different continents joining events of interest to them. This series will develop a pilot international webinar series, under the banner of the Global Alliance for Heritage Interpretation.

This yearlong series of webinars hosted by seven interpretation organizations around the world is free to all interpreters, regardless of membership or affiliation with any of the sponsor organizations! English-Spanish live translation will be available.

From ideation to installation, interpretive planners push boundaries to infuse new perspectives and challenge norms in exhibit and experience design. Join Lauryn Record, Senior Strategist-Interpretive Planning & Creative Services at the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo to discuss the advantages of having an interpretive voice at the table from the beginning of a project. Use the case study from Wild Canada, a reimagined zone at the zoo, Lauryn will discuss infusing interpretive stories into architecture and theming while amplifying new and underrepresented perspectives into the visitor journey. This session will be helpful for anyone looking to advocate for the importance of interpretative inclusion in decision making and all those who want to ensure diverse voices are included in the stories we tell.

Presented by Lauryn Record

Lauryn Record is a storyteller and place-maker who looks to craft experiences that more deeply connect people with the natural world through exceptional interpretive design. She is proud to live and work on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy and the nations of Treaty 7, including the Stoney Nakoda and Tsuut’ina First Nations, as well as Metis Nation Region 3.
